New nursing faculty to be set up


A new nursing faculty will be built in Sri Lanka at a cost of Rs. 12.5 billion according to a promise by Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne during the last general election, Minister’s Media Secretary Nipun Ekanayake said.

According to Ekanayake, the government has allocated Rs. 2.5 billion for the project. Assistance of foreign countries will also be taken for the project. Arrangements will also be made to train Sri Lankan nurses at Inje University, South Korea, he said.

The nursing faculty will grant degrees, post graduate degrees and doctorates. South Korea will assist the nursing faculty’s educational and training activities. Minister Senaratne is touring in South Korea in connection with coordination work, he said.

Minister Senaratne will meet south Korean Education Minister today.

The main objective of the project is providing better education and professional qualifications for Sri Lankan nurses, he said.
