UNP May Day rally targets 110,000 – Range Bandara

United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara yesterday said that the UNP’s May Day rally to be held near the P. D. Sirisena Stadium in Maligawatte with the participation of more than 110,000 persons.

He said that the entire country knows that President Ranil Wickremesinghe created atmosphere for political parties to hold a May Day rally.” No one came forward to take over the country,

except for Ranil Wickremesinghe. Everyone should understand that everything is possible in the country because of Ranil Wickremesinghe”.

Range Bandara said that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has done nothing but they are striving to make ongoing programmes ineffective. “The Uma-Oya Irrigation project should have been vested in the people many years ago,”he added.He said that former JVP MP Samantha Vidyaratne is spreading lies saying that there is a hole in the Uma-Oya, which cannot be stopped. “It caused a big uproar among the people in many areas including Bandarawela”, he said. Range Bandara said that he frightened the people in the area saying that agriculture economy would collapse soon.”He got involved religious leaders in these protests and demonstrations”, he said. The UNP General Secretary said that Vidyaratne deceived the people in the area.This project supplies water for drinking and agriculture purposes while generating electricity.
