Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said in Parliament on Thursday that necessary reports to solve the salary anomalies of teachers and principals in Government schools will be prepared shortly and a Cabinet memorandum in this regard will be submitted as soon as possible.
We acknowledge that there are issues regarding salary anomalies of principals and teachers in Government schools and we are working hard to resolve them.
The Minister said this while replying to an oral question raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa regarding a letter sent by a Senior Assistant Secretary of the Education Ministry to several teachers’ unions regarding the salary anomaly issue of teachers and principals.
“This teacher-principal salary issue is not something that happened under this Government. This problem has existed for the last 29 years. Teachers entered into a tough fight in 2021-2022 due to these anomalies. Teachers were even quitting teaching at that time. Accordingly, the then Government formed a Ministerial Sub-Committee and solved this problem by increasing salaries section wise. However, an anomaly in the salaries of other Government employees started with this step. The salary of all Government employees has been increased this year.
