Kandy Ladies Cricket Club emerge champions

Kandy Ladies Cricket Club emerged champions by beating Central Ladies Cricket Club in the Central Province Association Women’s’ T 20 cricket tournament. The second place went Central Ladies Cricket Club and the third place went to Kegalle Ladies Cricket Club. The matches were played on Sunday.

In the final Kandy Ladies Cricket Club won by one wicket, in this final Central Ladies Cricket Club batting first were able to score 100 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 over’s and in reply Kandy Ladies Cricket Club were able to score 101 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. The matches were played at the Gampola Zahira College grounds. This was good display by

the Kandy Ladies Cricket Club and match awards were won by Hiruni Dissanayake of Kandy Ladies Cricket Club was the best batsman, and the best blower was Tharushi Thathsarani of Central Ladies Cricket Club, best fielders Diyon Nirmala Central Ladies Cricket Club and the player of the tournament award was won by Kavishka Abeyratne of Kandy Ladies Cricket Club.

Kandy Ladies Cricket Club – 101 for 9 in 20 over’s – Kavishka Abeyaratne 33, Sanuki Pathirage 21, Sansala Wanigasekara 2 for 9, Shanilka Sathyangi 2 for 14, Tharushi Thathsarani 2 for 20.

Then in the third place game Kegalle Ladies Cricket Club emerged the winner by beating Nuwara Eliya Ladies Cricket Club, this game too was played at the Gampola Zahira College Grounds. Nuwara Eliya Ladies Cricket Club batting first scored 117 for 8 in 20 over’s and Kegalle Ladies Cricket Club scored 120 for 4 in 17.4 over’s to win by six wickets.

Nuwara Eliya Ladies Cricket Club – 117 for 8 in 20 over’s – Nirasha Gimhani 21, W. Sathaweni 19 not out, Chatrhuni Maheesha 2 for 29, Nadeeshani Seneviratne 1 for 11.

Kegalle Ladies Cricket Club 120 for 4 in 17.4 over’s – Ruvini Nadasena 35, Imesha Mihirangi 34 not out. Nipuni Francis 1 for 12.

Sylvestrian sports meet

St Sylvester’s College inter house Sports meet will take place today at the Asgiriya Stadium. The meet will get off to a start at 1 pm; the meet will start with the chief guest Major General W.M.P.M. Wijesooriya. This sporting event brings together the students, teachers, parents and the old boys. For a good day filled with athletic competitions, teamwork and camaraderie. This meet will be competed by students of four houses, Gemunu House, Tissa House, Parakrama House and Vijaya House and will show the importance of sportsmanship and healthy competition among the school community.
