US$ 2.5 Bn multilateral debt paid annually – State Minister

 Finance State Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that despite the official suspension of foreign debt payments, US$ 2.5 billion dollars has been paid in 2022 and US$ 2.6 billion dollars in 2023.

The Minister said that they are paying about US$ 2.5 billion dollars annually and only bilateral foreign debt payments have been suspended and before the suspension of debt payments, they were paying about US$ 5 billion dollars annually.

The government has maintained strict financial discipline and the Minister said that the government is dedicated to the people and those decisions are not popular and the government’s aim is to make Sri Lanka a country with a strong economy.
