Sri Lankan top four athletes are gearing up to compete in the UAE athletic Grand Prix today (3) at the Dubai Police grounds. All four athletes Nadeesha Ramanayake, Gayanthika Abeyratne, Tharushi Karunaratne and Yupun Abeykoon are in good form while they will have to face difficult challenge at this event.
Nadeesha Ramanayake the 400m athlete will compete at 7.15pm Sri Lanka time while ace sprinter Yupun Abeykoon will run at 7.50 pm Sri Lanka time.
The promising middle distance athlete Tharushi Karunaratne the Asian Games gold medalist and experienced Gayanthika Abeyratne will compete 800 m event at 9 pm Sri Lanka time.
According to the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Athletics Saman Kumara Gunawardena said this Dubai Grand Prix is vital for all Sri Lanka athletes to get ranking points for the Olympic qualification.
Yupun Abeykoon based on Italy came to Dubai for this meet while three Sri Lanka athletes Gayanthika Abeyratne, Tharushi Karunaratne and Nadeesha Ramanayake left yesterday to take part this event.
