The Criminal Investigation Department reported to the Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday that an investigation has been initiated regarding an incident in which nearly US$ 235,000 defrauded from a businesswoman after promising her new business opportunities through messages sent on e-mails.

The Criminal Investigation Department reported to the Court that the investigation was started based on a complaint made by Teshani Weerakkody, a resident of Colombo 5.

The facts regarding this incident were reported to the Court by the Criminal Investigation Department.

The Criminal Investigation Department has reported to Court that false messages were sent to the complainant’s e-mail stating that business opportunities would be provided and then someone fraudulently obtained US$ 23,4720.37 belonging to the complainant. Accordingly, the Criminal Investigation Department informed the Court that it will conduct investigations by summoning analytical reports regarding those emails and telephones.
