Injections scam: Court orders DGHS to submit all reports

Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickreme yesterday ordered the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) to submit a report to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the deaths occurred and patients affected in the government hospitals after administering the human immunoglobulin and Rituximab injections which have been found to be substandard, before May 30. The Magistrate ordered the report to be in detail along

with the list of hospitals and the wards to which the vaccines in question were distributed, nature of the allergic reactions of the affected patients and the post-mortem reports of the deceased, if any and their contact details. The order was issued by the Magistrate following a request made by Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama from court. In addition, the DGHS was also ordered to submit to the CID another report regarding whether the Department of Health Services has initiated any internal investigation over the incident of substandard drug purchasing.
