Six drivers and four conductors who were operating passenger buses after using narcotic drugs were arrested in a special raid conducted by the Dam Street Police.

According to information received by the Dam Street Police, a person who was supplying drugs to bus drivers and conductors was arrested during the raid last Saturday.

Police said that the suspect, who is a resident of Grandpass, supplies a variety of narcotics, including ice and heroin, which are requested by bus drivers and conductors.

A senior police officer stated that when the bus drivers and conductors bring passengers to Colombo, they make a phone call to the person specifying the type of drug they need and accordingly the supply will be made.

Police said they monitored several calls requesting for drugs from the suspect by drivers and conductors after his arrest.

The police officers who conducted the raid told the suspect to accept the drug orders.

Then, according to those orders, the police officers went to several places with the suspect and had arrested the drivers and conductors who bought the narcotics.

Police further stated that the bus drivers and conductors were released on bail after being produced before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court.
