Sri Lanka’s wheelchair tennis champions, Suresh Dharmasena and Gamini Dissanayake, set off on an exciting journey yesterday as they departed for Korea to participate in three consecutive wheelchair tennis tournaments.
Their first stop is the Busan Open, scheduled to commence on March 20 and conclude on March 23. Both Dharmasena and Dissanayake will showcase their skills in this tournament, accompanied by their coach, Sanka Athukorale.
Following the Busan Open, the duo will compete in the Daego Open, scheduled from March 26 to 30, followed by the Seoul Korea Open, which will take place from April 2 to 6. These tournaments mark an important milestone in their careers as they vie for improve their ranings before the World Cup in April.
Upon completing the trio of tournaments, Dharmasena and Dissanayake will return to Sri Lanka on April 7 before starting on their next challenge, the World Cup, scheduled to begin on April 22.
Suresh Dharmasena’s remarkable rise in the wheelchair tennis rankings is a source of pride for Sri Lanka, as he currently holds the 25th position in the world rankings, marking his highest achievement to date. This achievement surpasses his previous best world ranking of 41 in 2022.
Meanwhile, Gamini Dissanayake holds the 86th position in the world rankings, demonstrating his formidable talent on the court.
