Cabinet nod for Task Force on Prison Overcrowding

 

Cabinet approval was granted for the appointment of a Task Force on Legal and Judicial Causes of Prison Overcrowding, Parliamentary Affairs and Mass Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilake said.

He was speaking at the Cabinet briefing at the Information Department Auditorium yesterday. He said Cabinet  approval was granted to appoint the Task Force with the Co-Chairpersonship of Secretary to the Justice Ministry and Secretary to the Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs Ministry and also to obtain proposals to make necessary amendments to the existing laws and procedures.

He added that the proposal was made jointly by Justice Minister Wijayadasa Rajapakshe and Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs Minister D.M. Swaminathan.

Cabinet Spokesman and the Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Rajith Senaratne, outgoing Military Spokesman Brig.

Jayantha Jayaweera and incoming Military Spokesman Brig. Roshan Seneviratne also participated at the media briefing.
