FR filed by Sujeewa fixed for argument

The Supreme Court yesterday fixed for argument, a Fundamental Rights petition filed by State Minister of International Trade Sujeewa Senasinghe against a Police officer over an incident that took place in Athurugiya during his election campaign.

The petition will be taken up for argument on February 16.

The Court had earlier granted leave to proceed with this Fundamental Rights petition.

The State Minister filed a Fundamental Rights petition in court seeking an order directing the Police to take disciplinary action against the sergeant who Senasinghe claimed had blocked a truck that was being used in campaign.

The Supreme Court also issued an order staying the operation of the magisterial inquiry against him until the Attorney General inquired into the matter.
