Man who fell asleep inside ATM loses phones, bike

A man lost his two mobile phones and his motorbike after he fell asleep for nearly three hours inside a bank ATM booth at Wijerama, Nugegoda.

The Mirihana Police said the businessman found his two mobile phones and motorbike missing after he woke up. The 45-year-old businessman residing in Padukka, Malagala while returning home after attending a party had stopped at the ATM booth of a private bank in the Nugegoda Wijerama area around 2.30 in the morning to withdraw money. Police investigations revealed that the card got stuck in the machine due the businessman who was in high spirits after having several drinks in the party forgot the PIN number.

After trying several times and when the card got stuck in the ATM machine the businessman had fallen asleep inside the booth and according to Police he had woken around 5.30 am.

Later he had complained to the Police about the missing bike and two mobile phones.

According to the Police officials, when checking the CCTV footage of the concerned bank, it was recorded that at 5.15 in the morning, two persons entered the ATM booth, approached the sleeping businessman, put their hands in his pockets and left with the two mobile phones and the motorcycle keys.

Police say that the wallet which too was taken out by the two men was left behind at the scene as there was no money in it. Police said that they will obtain Court orders to get the relevant CCTV footage to arrest the suspects who committed the theft.
