Student trafficking narcotics arrested in Matara

A 16-year-old student who is studying at a school in Matara area was arrested by Kotawila Police for drug trafficking.

Police said that when this student was arrested, 780 milligrams of cannabis and 920 milligrams of hashish were found in his possession. Apart from that, Rs.25,000 earned  from distributing and selling drugs has also been found in his possession. He is also addicted to these drugs, Police said. The student has revealed that he gets the drugs from a person he meets at the Matara railway station while going home after school.

The student has also told Police that he usually buys five grams of Kerala cannabis worth Rs.4,000 and ten pieces of hash worth Rs.100,000 from that person. Police say that the student said that he prepared the five grams of Kerala cannabis into ten packets, kept two for his own use and sold the remaining eight packets for five hundred rupees each. He has told the Police that the sale of hash is also done in this way and he earns a profit from it. The suspect said that he mostly sold drugs to his friends at school.

The suspect is the only child in the family and the mother is an accountant in a government agency and the father is a general manager of a private company.
