Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe pledged full support for hosting the 2025 South Asian Federation Football (SAFF) Tournament, when he felicitated the country’s victorious football team which secured a 2-0 victory against Asian rival Bhutan after 11 years and the island nation tasted a football victory after two and a half years.
President Wickremesinghe assured his full support in hosting the 15th edition of the biennial SAFF Championship in 2025 in Sri Lanka. He also pledged government assistance in developing football across the country.
Football Sri Lanka (FSL) will choose stadiums such as the Racecourse Stadium and Sugathadasa Stadium for the tournament. The President has promised to renovate these stadiums through Cabinet decisions before the next year’s nine-nation SAFF Championship, until FSL realizes its dream of a football stadium in the near future.
