Officers attached to Pitigala Police on Saturday (16) arrested two suspects for planning, aiding and abetting the recent double murder which took place in the Pitigala area on March 11 evening. The arrested are 35-year-old residents of the Thalgaswala area. The murders were committed on a Rs.5 mn contract given by an underworld figure in Dubai.
Police have taken into custody three mobile phones and two motorcycles suspected to have been used for the crime along with the suspects.
The double murder took place at Guruwela Junction area in Pitigala when two unidentified gunmen on a motorbike opened fire at a shop using a T-56 weapon killing two persons and injuring three more individuals.
The deceased were identified as 32-year-old Sasith Madhushanka from Karandeniya and 28-year-old Kavishka Anjana from Thalgaswala.Another double murder was reported in the Ambalangoda area on the same evening thus injuring three more people in a shooting similar to the Pitigala incident.
It also had been carried out by two unidentified gunmen came by a motorbike using a T-56 weapon. Considering the identical nature in both incidents, Police suspect that the gunmen involved in both shootings to be the same individuals. It is also suspected that not all the four deceased were the gunmen’s targets and some of them have been killed by mistake. However, these are yet to be revealed through investigations.
Pitigala Police are conducting investigations.
