Residents collect Rs. 30 Mn, help build Kumbukgete Police Station

Minister, IGP to open building on Wednesday

The new Police Station building of Kumbukgete constructed at a cost of over Rs.30 million with the contribution of funds and labour from the area residents will be declared open by the Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles and IGP Deshabandu Thennakoon on March 20. The Kumbukgete Police Station which was housed at a private premises since 2016 had to be shifted to another place when the Police had to return the premises to its original owner.

Accordingly, the businessmen and the residents of the area had gathered to build this new two-storied Police station building in a two-acre land donated by the Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka of the Ihala Dolospaththuwa and Chief Incumbent of the Kasagala Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Melsiripura Wimalarathana Thera.

The project was carried out with the support of the current OIC of the Kumbukgete Police Station CI Roshan Chandana Gunasinghe on the instructions of SSP of Kurunegala Upul Chandana Abeysinghe, who has been promoted as a DIG.

Funds required for the project had been collected by conducting fairs and musical shows in addition to the donations by the business community and the residents of the area had also contributed with their labour to complete the project.
