Mystery death of woman on holiday in Mt. Lavinia

Mount Lavinia Police said the body of a young British woman, who also has a Sri Lankan origin was found near a housing complex in Alwis Place where she was staying.

Mount Lavinia Police said the young British woman, was in Sri Lanka on an invitation from a young man she had met through Facebook. Both of them were staying in an apartment in the 13th floor of the housing complex.

Police say that she had come to Sri Lanka on March 8 to meet her boyfriend who is a law student studying in Switzerland and residing in Wellawatte. He had come to Sri Lanka last year.

Mount Lavinia Police commenced the investigations into the incident to determine whether the death of the 27 -year-old woman identified as Sinnaiah Alageswaran Romina was a suicide, an accident or a murder.

The young man who maintained a relationship with the deceased through Facebook has been taken into Police custody in connection with the incident. He has stated before the Police that on the night of last Friday 8, there was a minor argument between the two regarding religion and after drinking about six cans of beer, he fell asleep and then when he woke up, she was nowhere to be seen, and later he found her body on the ground floor of the apartment complex.
