The investigating teams suspect that a raiding party may be behind the shooting at Ratmalana Railway Station Road yesterday (10) at around 3.30 am, where a 34-year old man was injured.
Police say that this person, who is a fisherman, was also involved in drug trafficking. A senior Police officer said two cases are pending against him in the High Courts.
During the investigation, it has been found that a few people who came on a motorcycle and a car brought him out of the house and when they were about to take him in the vehicle he had struggled and a shot was fired by a person in the group which investigators think was an accidental firing. After the shot was fired, the group had left the location in a hurry.
Local residents had taken the victim in a trishaw to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital.
A high-ranking Police officer said that investigations are underway to identify the group involved in the shooting through the information provided by the person who was shot and security camera footage.
