The Bambalapitiya Police arrested the son of a car dealer in Kollupitiya who was driving a racing car and hit a motorcycle with two police officers and was hiding after he fled.
During a medical examination of the son of this millionaire businessman, it has been revealed that he is an addicted to narcotics.
A senior police officer said that it appears that he had consumed all these drugs mixed with alcohol and had driven the car on the night of July 17 when the accident took place.
The accident happened on July 17 at around 10 pm in Bambalapitiya.
The two officers attached to the Borella Police Station, Constables J. H. N. T. Wickramasiri and S. P. H. M. Kumarasiri, has been injured by this accident. The senior police officer said that they are currently being treated at the Colombo National Hospital’s emergency ward and one officer had to undergo removal of several toes as a result of the severe injury.
The police said the two officers were travelling from Wellawatta to Kollupitiya on a motorcycle of one of the officers on an official duty when the car speeding from the wrong direction collided with the motorcycle the two police officers were riding.
After the accident, the driver fled without checking what happened to the officers.
The suspect was arrested along with the car after an investigation into the accident including checking the security camera footage. The suspect has been remanded until July 24 after being presented to the court.
