Marking a first, Rupavahini goes for AI in news telecast

Marking a first in Sri Lanka, National Television ‘Rupavahini’ yesterday took steps to present a Sinhala news programme using Artificial Intelligence technology.

The Rupavahini using AI technology used replicas of leading TV anchors, Nishadhi Bandaranayake and Chaminda Gunaratne during their 8 pm news telecast.

A major portion of the news telecast was presented in this manner bringing the latest experience of AI technology to the audience.

The national television earlier used this technology to broadcast the New Year rituals and it received a high response from viewers all over the country and the world. This broadcast was produced by Gamini Bandara Menikdiwela under the guidance of National Television Chairman Dr. Prasad Samarasinghe Menikdiwela is a producer who has gained extensive knowledge about AI technology by attending a special training held in Dubai and he is currently imparting that knowledge for the advancement of electronic media in Sri Lanka. In the future, National Television is planning to provide new experiences to the people by utilising this technology.
