SLCS seeks donations for ‘Op Shop’

The Sri Lanka Cancer Society (SLCS) has requested public to make donations to its ‘Op Shop’. The Op Shop was opened few years ago at SLCS Head Quarters at 37/25, SLCS Headquarters, Bullers Lane, Colombo 7.

Established in 1948 the SLCS is a voluntary, non-government and a non-profit making organisation.

The ‘Op Shop’ is a place where people could donate various goods and thereafter these goods are sold to needy people at affordable prices. The proceeds from sales are utilized to provide free medical assistance to cancer patients and survivors across the country and also to conduct cancer awareness programmes.

The Op Shop welcomes donations of new or usable items in good condition including clothing, bags, books, footwear, costume Jewellery, gents and ladies ware, shawls, linen, crockery, ornaments, glassware, furniture, electronic items, homeappliances, toys, sports and educational equipment, dry rations and any other miscellaneous items.

All donations could be handed over to SLCS office between 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. on weekdays.

SLCS’ Public Education Committee Chairperson Nedra Hewavitarne said the donations collected from donors are displayed at SLCS Headquarters office and they will be sold back to people.

The SLCS also maintains the ‘Shantha Sevana’ hospice for terminally ill cancer patients, Bandaranaike Memorial Cancer Care Home to provide transit facility and accommodation for cancer patients who are undergoing treatment at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital.
