Sri Lanka Chapter of World Forum for Sri Lankan Muslims Chairman Prof. Rasheen Bappu in condolence message over the death of Sarvodaya Founder Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne said that the late Dr. Ariyaratne enriched many families under the poverty line in the country.
“He transformed and navigated the Sri Lankan Civil Society activities to a result-oriented venture”.
Excerpts from the message: “It is with profound sadness that we condole the passing of Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne, Founder of Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement in Sri Lanka, the world’s largest spiritually-based people’s development movement. Starting his professional life as a school teacher, he became internationally renowned for his exemplary contributions to promoting social and political change through nonviolence. He transformed and navigated the Sri Lankan Civil Society activities to a result-oriented venture. He produced many leaders to give life to the society. His presence enriched many lives of Sri Lankan underprivileged individuals in countless ways. His loss leaves a void that can never be filled. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones”.
