A thirty-five-year-old woman suspected to have been involved in a number of incidents, including the death of the Eheliyagoda OIC who committed suicide by shooting himself with his duty firearm last October has been arrested by the Kandy Police Divisional Crimes Investigation Unit.
Investigations have revealed that the last call received on the Eheliyagoda Police OIC’s mobile phone was from the suspect woman’s phone before he shot himself dead with his duty revolver on October 21 last year at his official residence.
It was also revealed that this woman used two mobile phones to send the letter demanding ransom and threatening death by transferring it from one phone to the other and then submitting
it to Police.It was revealed through these police investigations that this woman, who had got their photos and videos to her mobile phone by building close relations with Police officers, had later used them to extort money from them.
A similar complaint had also been submitted to the email of Lalith Pathinayake, the Senior DIG in charge of the Central Province. Police said that the woman was arrested subsequent to them
conducting investigations after it was confirmed that it was a false complaint during an inquiry conducted by the State Intelligence Division.In the complaint sent to the email address of the Central Province Senior Deputy Inspector General, the woman had mentioned an address in Hindagala area in Peradeniya, but intelligence officers had confirmed that it was fake.Later, the investigation has been handed over to the Kandy Division Crimes Investigation Unit.
Police arrested the suspect in Kekirawa area by conducting investigations using her mobile phone number.
