The Sri Lanka Football President Jaswar Umar expressed firm confidence in the national team’s abilities, stating ambitions to compete on a global stage and secure victories in international matches.

“Our team is superb now, and we’re ready to take on any team in the world. In the future, we aim to win every international match we play,” declared the confident Sri Lanka Football Chief.

FSL President Jaswar Umar emphasized the significant strides made in strengthening the Sri Lankan football team. “This marks a new beginning for Sri Lanka in football. I call for everyone’s support to elevate the game to new heights,” said Umar.

Highlighting the detailed efforts behind team formation, Umar explained, “We scouted Sri Lankan origin players worldwide, selecting the best talents to bolster our squad. It took us nearly one and a half years to assemble a quality team.”

Reflecting on his vision outlined during his first term as FSL President in 2021, Umar remarked, “My ‘Dream 2025’ was to cultivate a formidable football team for our nation. I’m proud to have achieved it within two years.”

Umar detailed the rigorous selection process, mentioning hosting training camps and investing substantially to bring the chosen players to Sri Lanka. “Our aim was to have exceptional players in every position. Through thorough analysis, we identified the right individuals,” he added.

Despite Sri Lanka’s commendable performance and accumulation of 12 points in the last two FIFA Series games, their rankings have yet to reflect their progress. However, Umar remains optimistic, stating, “If we continue winning matches from June onwards, Sri Lanka’s position in the FIFA World Rankings will undoubtedly improve.”

Looking ahead, Umar revealed plans for six international matches scheduled to take place in Colombo this year. “Victories in these matches could propel us significantly in the FIFA world rankings,” he asserted. Additionally, Sri Lanka is set to host the Qualifying Round for the Asia Cup in September, further indicating the country’s growing presence in international football.

As Sri Lanka’s football journey progresses, optimism and persistence permeate the air, with aspirations set high for the national team’s success on the global stage.
