All set for the Kandy’s 117th Battle of the Maroons encounter between Dharmarja College and Kingswood College which will be played on 22 Friday and 23 Saturday March 2024 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium for T.B. Tennakoon Trophy. Out of the 116 games played Dharmaraja College has won 36, Kingswood College 19 and rest drawn.
This game between these two top cricket playing schools is one of the most talked about events among cricket lovers of the hill country. The first match between the two schools played in 1893, where Dharmaraja College side was led by great educationist, later Sir Don Baron Jayathilake, who was the principal of Dharmaraja College at that time. Kingswood College team was captained by A.E. Spencer.
The first schoolboy Big Match was played in 1899 with J.C. de Mel captaining Dharmaraja College and T.B. Marshall leading the Kingswood College. The 2011 is a game to be remembered, and events to inscribe in gold in the history of Dharmaraja – Kingswood Cricket encounter. This is the first ever school match played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. And it is proud to say that the trophy had been with Dharmaraja for 30 years.
