Katunayake Police arrested an agent of underworld criminal Supun Dayaratne alias Heenatiyana Mahesh while planning to kill two businessmen according to a contract. The 27-year-old suspect named Krishmantha Silva, a resident of Kalahugoda, Minuwangoda, was arrested by Police on December 21 with 6,010 milligrams of heroin.
It has been revealed during the questioning that this person is a close relative of Heenatayana Mahesh who lives in Dubai. He was arrested under an arrest warrant. During further interrogation, a revolver and seven rounds of ammunition were
found hidden in his house yesterday (26). This person, who is heavily addicted to drugs, has said that the firearm was given to him by Mahesh.
Police said that Heenatiyana Mahesh has been soliciting ransom from businessmen in many areas including Katunayake and Minuwangoda by making telephone calls from Dubai. Police have received information that he takes ransom from Rs. one million to Rs.20 million by threatening businessmen with firearms.
It has been revealed that the businessmen who buy discarded clothes from business establishments in the Katunayake Free Trade Zone have received threats from Heenatiyana Mahesh and the contract to kill two such businessmen has been given to the arrested person.Police say that the two businessmen have been receiving calls for ransom and due to non-payment of ransom, an agent of Heenatiyana Mahesh had been employed to kill them.
Under the supervision of Negombo Division SSP Anuruddha Bandaranayake and ASP Gamini Rathnayake, a team of officers including Katunayake Police OIC Chief Inspector Ajith Nissanka has conducted this raid.
