The Organised Crime Prevention Division informed the Attorney General yesterday (6) that no further legal proceedings will be taken against former MP Vijayakala Maheswaran for the allegation that she tried to create disunity among the races by making a statement that the LTTE movement should be rebuilt, Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis informed.
The Organised Crime Prevention Division filed a motion before court and submitted the Attorney General’s letter to the court. In relation to the incident, the Attorney General gave instructions on October 2 and told court to release her as the case against the MP cannot be sustained.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis who considered the matter issued notice to Vijayakala Maheswaran to appear in court on October 19.
On July 2, 2016, a case was filed against MP Vijayakala Maheswaran, alleging that she tried to create discord among the races by declaring that the LTTE organisation should be rebuilt at a function held at Weerasingham Hall, Jaffna.
