The arrested traders on the way to court.

Seventeen people including the President of the Peliyagoda Manning Market Traders’ Association who were arrested by the Police for organizing a protest, despite a court order banning such protests, was ordered to be released on personal bail of Rs.100,000 each yesterday by the Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake.

The Police on Tuesday obtained a restraining order against a planned protest by the Peliyagoda Manning Market Traders’ Association after informing courts that it would inconvenience the public. Despite the restraining order a group of traders from the association including its President engaged in a protest yesterday morning.

The Peliyagoda Manning Market Public Traders’ Association say they decided to hold this protest against the divesting of stalls to outsiders in violation of the promises made to them.
