Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said in Parliament yesterday that those who were elected to Parliament from a party that was registered by a non-Sri Lankan citizen should find the best team of legal experts to face the upcoming issues.
The Minister said that the Supreme Court has given a judgement regarding State Minister Diana Gamage’s position as a Member of Parliament. He said that he will not challenge that decision, but several other issues can arise from it.
Former MP Diana Gamage, who does not have Sri Lankan citizenship, has registered the SJB party which is represented in this Parliament by several MPs, Minister Wijesekera said.
Then it is questionable whether the Samagi Jana Balawega is a legally valid party, he said.
