Medawachchiya Magistrate Imesha Dharmadasa yesterday ordered the OIC of the Anti-Corruption Division of Medawachchiya Police to be remanded till May 15 in relation to the case regarding the assault of a 23-year-old man causing him grievous injuries leading to the removal of a testicle.

The Magistrate further ordered the Anuradhapura Superintendent to present the suspected OIC for an identification parade on that day. The Magistrate strongly rejected the request made by the senior lawyer Sajeeva Gunaratne, to cancel the identification parade to be held in relation to the anti-corruption division OIC and ordered the suspect to be submitted to an identification parade.

The Magistrate also strongly rejected the request of the lawyer Bhagya Sri Herath, to release the two police sergeants who were attached to the Traffic Division of the Medawachchiya Police, who are currently remanded in connection with this incident, on any bail condition. She also ordered them to be remanded until May 15.

Dilisha Sangeeth (23), the driver who was allegedly assaulted by the suspected Police officers had undergone treatment at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and after undergoing surgery, one of his testicles had been removed.
