It is a matter of concern that Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has been appointed as the Acting Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) while he is still a member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the SLPP will take an immediate action regarding his party membership, Badulla District MP Thissa Kuttiarachchi said. He stated this at a press conference held yesterday at the SLPP Headquarters at Nelum Mawatha, Battaramulla. Accordingly, the SLPP General Secretary and the senior members of the party will take a decision in this regard.
It is obvious that Minster Dr. Rajapakshe has committed a wrongdoing and there is a risk of him losing his party membership according to the SLPP party constitution. If he loses his party membership, then there is a risk of him losing his Parliamentary seat as well, Kuttiarachchi said.
The Executive Committee of the SLFP, which met on April 20, elected Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe as the Acting Chairman of the party.
