With just four and half months gone in 2024, the total number of tourist arrivals has almost reached the halfway mark of 2023.

The country attracted 1,487,303 arrivals last year and up to April 15, Sri Lankan has registered 718,315 arrivals averaging over 200,000 arrivals each month. From April 1 to 15 Sri Lanka attracted 82,531 visitors. India was the top market for Sri Lanka with 14,207 (17% share) while the United Kingdom with 9,095 (11%) and Russian Federation 8,508 (10%) were at second and third places. The only concern was the lackluster performance of the Chinese market which was lying at the seventh slot with 3,742 arrivals and accounting to only 5% total arrivals.

Tourism earnings in the first three months of 2024 also doubled by over 103% to reach USD 1,025.9 billion as against the three corresponding months of last year where earnings stood at USD 503.9 million.
