In a bid to foster global connectivity and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds, Women in Management (WIM) will launch WIM Global Membership.

Effective January 1, 2025, this initiative will provide women and men worldwide with the opportunity to network, collaborate and participate in the global economy. Also, they expect to start the operations on their USA chapter on the same day. Guided by a Board of Leaders representing diverse perspectives and experiences, WIM Global Membership aims to cultivate a vibrant community of professionals committed to driving positive change and innovation on a global scale.

The Women In Management organization has engaged in various projects to empower women in Sri Lanka and other countries. The Single Mother project is one of the main projects.

The project reaches out to single mothers to help harness their potential through training and education. WIM extends its hand of expertise to empower these women by helping them to establish a start-up, such as a micro-enterprise. The training provided, adopts a holistic approach of navigating them through the intricate steps of launching their own, equipping them with appropriate skills, knowledge and assistance to garner the market segment for their goods.

‘Blessed Kids’ is another project which will help to uplift the children of single mothers. Many children of single mothers drop out of school without completing their O/Ls and A/L’s due to lack of financial support and also many fail due to lack of tutorial support to pass the examinations. Therefore, the children of single mothers tend to get married before the age of 18 years, become drug addicts or choose the job of drug seller or unskilled employment without a permanent income. This project will enable children of single mothers to complete their O/L or A/L studies with required extra classes and stationaries.

Speaking at a meeting held in Colombo recently, Chairman and Founder of the Women In Management organization Dr. Sulochana Segera expressed that she had requested the authorities to get a home to make a Safe House for the girls below age 18. They have been able to take over the Maduruketiya Children Development Centre in Monaragala. Currently, there are 42 girls in the centre, but they have space for 50. This initiative represents a bold step towards providing a safe house for girls who have endured abandonment, abuse and trauma. Through holistic care, education and advocacy, WIM assumes full responsibility for managing, educating and nurturing these girls ensuring their safety, well-being and bright futures. Also, there are several new projects on the way to empower women in the corporate sector as well.

Currently, WIM has marked their presence in Maldives, Canada, Malaysia, UAE and the UK. They have plans to expand their network in the future.
