Rs. 5000 Mn to settle state plantation employees’ dues

Plantation Enterprises Reform Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the Cabinet paper related to unpaid statutory payments of employees working under state plantation enterprises will be forwarded to the Cabinet next week, so that they can be settled.

The Minister pointed out that accordingly, more than Rs.5000 million is to be paid along with the surcharges of the Employees’ Provident Fund and the Employees’ Trust Fund. Pointing out that as the first duty of the year, he had arranged to give the necessary instructions to the Ministry Secretary, the Minister said that the plantation enterprise reforms should commence by protecting the legal rights of the working people.

The Minister further mentioned that more than 2,000 lawsuits have been filed by the employees’ side in this regard and the relevant institutions are also spending a lot of money in the form of lawyer’s fees.
