Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake yesterday ordered the Prisons Superintendent to facilitate the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers to record a statement from actress Damitha Abeyratne and her husband who are in remand custody over the alleged financial fraud of Rs.3 million.

The order was issued by the Additional Magistrate following a request made by the CID mentioning that it has received reports relating to the bank accounts of the two suspects and therefore, they need to record statements from the suspects regarding those reports.

When the Attorney-at-Law appeared for the suspects requested the Court to order the CID to submit a report of evidence required to grant bail to the suspects, the CID informed the Court that the investigations in to the allegations against the suspects are yet to be finalized and such a report will be submitted separately for each suspect in the future.

Considering the facts, the Court ordered to further remand the suspects until April 24.

Actress Damitha Abeyratne and her husband were initially arrested by the CID on April 5 over a financial fraud of Rs.3 million from a person promising to provide him with a job in Korea and were remanded after being produced before the Courts.
