The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) said that MP Nalin Bandara has been appointed as the head of operations to coordinate the proposed debate between Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and National People’s Power (NPP) leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The appointment has been made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. In a statement, MP Nalin Bandara suggested that the ideal time for the proposed debate would be in May. He also mentioned in the announcement that a date should be reserved for a debate between the economic councils of the two parties, followed by the debate between the leaders of the two political parties. After that, the relevant timeframe and platform for the debate can be selected.
He further stated that his challenge to the economic committee of the NPP to hold a debate has now taken a different turn, with the NPP proposing a debate between the Presidential candidates of the two parties.
MP Nalin Bandara also expressed strong condemnation of the attempt to divert the debate by not accepting the invitation extended by the SJB to the three economic policymakers of the NPP for a public debate on the country’s economic policy.
