Skipper Gaviru Senhas stroked a brilliant unbeaten double century while Malitha Perera scored 118 as D.S Senanayake College made a mammoth first innings total of 370 for 4 wickets and Mahanama made 94 for 2 wickets at close of the first days play in the 18 th Battle of the Golds big match played at SSC grounds yesterday.
It was a record breaking big match on the first day while skipper Senhas gave a fine batting display to score highest individual score with his double century while deputy Skipper Malitha Perera hit 118 being involved in a record breaking 248 runs second wicket stand with Senhas and entered the record book yesterday with these two superb two knocks .
Mahanama skipper Duvindu Ranathunga won the toss and decided to field first but their bowlers couldn’t get any advantage while D.S’S skipper Senhas was leading from the front to build up the innings.
D.S openers Pesandu Weerasinghe was out scoring 12 when the score reached 55 but Senhas joined Malitha Perera to display superb batting and their positive approach made 166 for 1 wicket at lunch and Senhas reached first session century which was his first century of the season.
The second wicket stand of 248 runs gave them more advantage while they scored quickly in a session to complete 370 4 wickets after 69.2 overs . Skipper Gaviru the hero of the day scored unbeaten double century which was his first 200 of the school career hit 27 fours and 2 sixes in his 189 ball unbeaten knock while Malitha Perera scored 118 in 152 balls with 16 fours and their coach Keerthi Gunaratne was happiest man as team did what he expected.
Mahanama opener Dulnith Sigera was unbeaten on 48 with 52 balls with 8 fours with him Chamika Heenatigala (10) at the wicket at close while DS’ s Akmal Fazly took both Mahanama wickets yesterday Today game will be continued at 9.45a.m
