The Sri Lanka Information Technology Association has requested the public to be aware of fake messages that are exchanged and shared using brands of well-known companies about giving prizes to their mobile phones.
Making a statement the Sri Lanka Information Technology Association has pointed out that by using these fake messages sent with links, can be used by cyber attackers and hackers once the links are opened, to get sensitive personal data of subscribers at any time.
Also, it was pointed out that through such fake messages, malicious software can be installed on the mobile phones that can spread into the applications installed in them, which cannot be cleaned or get rid of once installed.
Since there has been a rapid increase in the number of complaints received on these alarming incidents, people have been advised not to open such messages even if they have been sent or shared by very well-known parties.
