It is better to hold the Presidential Election first than the Parliamentary Elections in order to save the country from the current economic crisis, for the country can be rebuilt only through a stable government,” Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

He emphasised that there is no possibility of establishing a stable government through a Parliamentary Election at the moment.

The Minister further said a stable government must be appointed in order to rescue the country from the current crisis and it can be possible by holding the Parliamentary Elections after the Presidential Election.

Minister Ranatunga said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe stabilised the country which was unstable during the time of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and reiterated that the SLPP should give President Wickremesinghe an opportunity to be a next Presidential candidate since there is no suitable candidate for the SLPP at the moment to nominate for the upcoming Presidential Election.

Minister Ranatunga revealed these facts during the media briefing held at the SLPP Headquarters at Nelum Mawatha yesterday. Minister Ranatunga said that it would be better if former MP Basil Rajapaksa was in the position of national organiser in the Pohottuwa. He also emphasised that MP Namal Rajapaksa has more time to run for the Presidential Election.
