Adam Fernando wins Captain’s Cup Golf

Adam Fernando has emerged as the champion of the 144th Captain’s Cup 2023 Golf Tournament held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club in Colombo. Fernando’s outstanding performance secured him a spot on the Honourary Board of the club.

In a closely contested event, Fernando clinched the Overall Nett Winner title with an impressive score of 136 nett. Romesh Abhayaratne secured the Overall Nett Runner Up position with a total score of 139.

Excitement filled the tournament as Sachin De Silva scored a memorable Hole In One, earning himself the Overall Gross Winner title with a score of 145 gross.

In the Master’s Division, V. T. Sundaralingam claimed victory with a nett score of 68, while Milinda Ratnayake secured the Runner Up position with 72 nett on the back nine.

Mohan de Silva dominated the Senior’s Division, securing the title with a remarkable nett score of 62, while Kumar Boralessa finished as the Runner Up with a nett score of 72.

Danushi Senadhira emerged victorious in the Ladies’ Category, claiming the Ladies Gross Winner title with a score of 79 gross. In the Silver Division, Jade Jiggens clinched victory on the back nine, while Yun Jeong Choi finished as the Runner Up with 70 nett.

Shyama Perera showcased outstanding performance in the Bronze Division, securing victory with a nett score of 68, while Sandra Cadien finished as the Runner Up with 72 nett.

Individual performances were also recognised, with R. R. Leon and Jeong Won Lee awarded the Best Nett titles for the first and second day, respectively.

The tournament, sponsored by RCGC Captain Dr. Rohith Silva and the Club, featured competitions for Ladies’, Seniors, and Masters’ on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday reserved for the two-day tournament for the Winner. The Captain’s Cup, the oldest tournament in Sri Lanka organized by the Royal Colombo Golf Club, has been played throughout history, with the exception of during World War II.
