Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB ) and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa highly valued the importance of utilising parts of isolated Government buildings islandwide, to establish Information Technology (IT) and English Learning Centres, and said current statistics reveal that a large number of children now focus their attention towards learning these two vital subjects, as they are immensely needed to find both local and foreign employment opportunities.
The Opposition Leader made these remarks at a ceremony he attended at the Muslim Maha Vidyalaya, Dambulla, to distribute of Smart Digital Equipment.
He said that, as many children in the country are not in a sound financial situation, the SJB will one day wish to give all children an opportunity to expand their knowledge by learning both IT and English.
The Opposition Leader was given a rousing welcome by the school Principal, students, teachers and well-wishers, when he arrived to make the donation. He said it was the reason the SJB started the Digital Equipment distribution programme in countrywide needy schools.
Premadasa further said that, under the ‘Sakwala’ education uplifting programme, the SJB, with the support of local and international donors, have to date donated millions worth of Digital Equipment such as Computers, Smart Boards etc. to needy schools islandwide.
He said that, being in the Opposition, the SJB is the only Party that makes such donations to schools, as well as Medical Equipment to hospitals. The Opposition Leader further said the SJB will continue to carry out these programme, even after becoming the President of the country. Premadasa also said that, in addition, the SJB has to date donated over 80 buses to schools, islandwide.
