Former SJB MP and CMC Mayoral candidate Mujibur Rahman will be nominated to fill the vacant SJB National List MP seat after the Supreme Court disqualified State Minister Diana Gamage from holding an MP seat.
SJB General Secretary MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara announced in Parliament yesterday that this decision will be communicated to the Elections Commission.
The Supreme Court yesterday declared that State Minister Diana Gamage is not legally qualified to hold a parliamentary seat. After receiving the Supreme Court’s verdict revoking State Minister Diana Gamage’s Membership in Parliament to the General Secretary of the Parliament, she will inform the Elections Commission of the vacancy in the national list MP seat. Accordingly, EC will inquire from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya party about the representative to be named the vacant national list post. Then the representative nominated by the party will be announced in a special gazette.
