Four persons have been arrested by the Police in connection with the murder of a youth whose naked body was found in the Welivita area in Kaduwela in Wednesday. The victim has been identified as Kota Chamara, who was a resident of Gothatuwa Lindahena. Police investigations have revealed that he is involved in drug trafficking.
Police investigation revealed that the murdered person was taken in a trishaw to a house in Megoda Kolonnawa and beaten to death before dumping the body on the road in Kaduwela. Police said Dinesh Niroshan (37) an underworld drug dealer planned the killing. Police said that Dinesh is among the suspects arrested in connection with the murder and one Priyadarshana, the trishaw driver took the body and dumped it near Welivita.
Police say that the other two suspects are close friends of Dinesh and they are residents of Angoda and Wellampitiya.
It has also been revealed that this group had once worked with underworld criminal named Angoda Lokka and after his demise with another underworld criminal named Jile. The victim is said to have been involved with them in drug trafficking. A club and a wire used in the killing have also been taken into Police custody along with the suspects. A motorcycle and a three-wheeler used by the suspects have also been taken into Police custody.
The killing was based on assumptions that the victim had tipped off the Police about the drug trafficking done by the gang. The arrested suspects are to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.
