The planned critical reforms that are currently being implemented should not be revised at all, Central Bank Governor (CBSL) Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe stated since the country

has not fully recovered from the worst economic crisis in post Independence history.

The Governor said this while attending the special press conference held at the CBSL headquarters yesterday (7).

The Governor said that even though Sri Lanka has achieved significant progress by the end of 2023 compared to 2022, it cannot go for ill-planned policy experiments in order to improve it to a more successful sustainable development.

He also mentioned that the continued implementation of economic reforms, based on a broad political and social consensus, is extremely crucial to prevent the decline of Sri Lanka’s economy at this time. The Governor said that it will ensure sustainable growth and increase the welfare of the common people.

The Governor said so while commenting on the “Annual Economic Commentary 2023” and “Financial Statements and Operations of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka 2023” reports issued by the CBSL Act No. 16 of 2023.

CBSL Senior Deputy Governor T.M.J.Y.P.Fernando, Assistant Governor Dr.C.Amarasekara, Director of Economic Research Dr.S.Jegajeevan, Additional Director of Economic Research Dr. L.R.C.Pathberiya expressed their views at the conference.
