Justice Minister Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapakshe emphasised in Parliament yesterday that there is no provision to impart judicial powers to any local or foreign person or institution other than the Sri Lankan judiciary according to the Constitution.

The Minister mentioned that there is a judicial system properly established in this country according to the Constitution and he said that the public have reached certain conclusions based on the past activities of the members of the JVP.

During 1988-1989, the JVP had set fire to 27 Courts in the country and declared that they set fire to the Homagama court and put the judge’s coat on a Bull and let the Bull walk around the city.

He recalled that the JVP entrusted the task of administering justice to a Bull that time and said that Bull has become the symbol of justice at that time.

Minister Rajapakshe mentioned this while expressing his views in the conversation in Parliament yesterday  regarding a statement made by former JVP MP K.D. Lalkantha.

The people have come up with some ideas about these statements based on past experiences of the JVP.  In 88 and 89, 27 Court halls were set on fire in our country including Courts in Homagama, Mount Lavinia and Nugegoda.
