Sajeev de Silva, Sri Lanka’s top-ranked archer, has achieved the Paris Olympic qualifying standard through universality places following his outstanding performance at the 7th Kartini International Archery Championship 2024. Held from April 24 to 26 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The tournament marked a historic milestone for Sri Lankan archery.

Competing in the 70-meter Recurve Men’s Open category, de Silva clinched the silver medal, securing the Paris Olympic qualifying standard of 640. His impressive scores of 324/2 in the first round and 322/2 in the second round contributed to his total of 646 points, ultimately earning him the silver medal in the knockout competition.

This achievement holds special significance in Sri Lanka’s archery, as it marks the first time a Sri Lankan archer has attained the Olympic qualifying standard during the past year.

De Silva, an old boy of S Thomas’ College, a versatile athlete who previously represented Sri Lanka in rowing at the Asian Games in 2010, will rely on a wildcard entry to compete in Paris based on his current points. He remains determined to secure a direct qualifying spot in his next event, set to take place in Turkey.

Currently, de Silva is intensively training, with his sights set on the upcoming Olympic Qualifying Competition, the Turkey World Cup. Scheduled to commence from June 14 onwards in Turkey, this event serves as the final opportunity for athletes to qualify for the 2024 Paris Games, scheduled to be held from July 26 to August 11 in France. De Silva,32, is committed to giving his all in pursuit of his Olympic dreams and hopes to make his country proud.
