Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday said that former President Maithripala Sirisena was just a ‘pancha’ when the civic rights of her mother Sirimavo Bandaranaike were denied by the then government.

“He was mere a clerk working under then Polonnaruwa MP Wijesinghe, when the civic rights of my mother were denied,”she said.

She was speaking to the media following the 108th birth commemoration of former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike, held at BMICH yesterday evening.Bandaranaike said that Sirisena is incapable of leading a party due to his frequent changes in stance. He frequently alters his opinions overnight, she said.

She said that former President Sirisena removed her from the party when she opposed the party’s move to join the SLFP with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. She said that she handed the SLFP over to the former President Maithripala Sirisena as a formidable party but the latter has divided it into six.

“What we are striving is to rebuild the party which was destroyed by him. He has divided the SLFP into six groups,”she said.Responding to the allegations made by former President Maithripala Sirisena that conspiracies are being hatched to join SLFP with the government, Bandaranaike said that she does not have any intention to do so.

“Why should I join the SLFP with the present government led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe because it is a SLPP government,” she said.
