A new water project has been completed and handed over to the St. Fatima Roman Catholic (RC) School in Kilinochchi, fulfilling the school’s long-awaited need for a water supply for its students. The project was constructed by troops of the 11th (V) Gajaba Regiment and was handed over to the school children by the Commander of Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General MGWWWMCB Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc on April 2, 2024.
The Principal of St. Fatima RC School, Rev. Sister Nirmala Wasanthan, expressed her gratitude for the water project, stating that it was challenging to fulfill the water needs of the school and that all students and staff is very happy with the new water supply. On behalf of the school, she thanked everyone who was involved in this project, including the soldiers who dedicated their time to build it.
In addition, stationery supplies were distributed to the Mariyamadi Preschool children with the patronage of philanthropists.
Furthermore, two new houses for needy families in Varani, Kilinochchi, were handed over to the families by the Commander of Security Forces (Jaffna) in the same day, demonstrating the Sri Lankan Army’s concern for human welfare.
Under the Provincial Specific Development Project initiative, the Governor’s Secretariat of Northern Provincial Council allocated Rs 1.8 million for raw materials for both houses. These houses were constructed by troops of the 11 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and 7 VIR with the technical assistance of the 5 Corps of Engineer Services.
The ceremonies were attended by Brigadier KJNMPK Nawarathna RWP RSP ndu, Brigadier General Staff of Security Forces (Jaffna), S Mularitharan, Additional District Secretary of Kilinochchi, Rev. Sister Nirmala Wasanthan, Principal of St. Fatima RC School, Brigade Commanders of 551, 552, and 553 Infantry Brigades, Students and local community.
