Two suspects arrested over gold necklace robbery

The Akuressa Police say that two persons were arrested on suspicion of robbing a woman’s gold necklace valued at Rs. 286,000 on the side road in Thannapitahena, Akuressa, Diyalape on Wednesday (10).

The robbery of this gold necklace took place last Sunday (7).

One suspect is a 32-year-old married resident of Balapitiya area and the other is a 26-year-old bachelor from Kamburupitiya area. A mobile phone used by one of the robbers was found at the scene of the robbery and was taken into Police custody.

Police investigations were conducted through this mobile phone, where the Police managed to arrest the two suspects.

It has been revealed from the questioning of the suspects that they are involved in many crimes and that they have escaped from their residential areas and are hiding in other areas.

On the instructions and supervision of Akuressa Police Station Chief Inspector Sudath Sudusinghe, Crime OIC Police Inspector Dharmawardena, PS Nishantha, PS Upul, PC Perera, Female PC Srimali arrested the two suspects.

The suspects were produced to the Matara Magistrate’s Court on the 10th and orders have been obtained for further questioning.
